Also, thankyou to our two observers Sarah & Bev Cumberland.

Setting up started on Saturday Morning around 9am. A route was plotted mainly surrounding the parking area. Recent rain, plus lots more Saturday meant the loop around that side of the venue was quite wet and would have been a struggle for the younger kids, and parents on foot. I was worried about a short lap, but felt that it gave a nice Family vibe with everything so close together.

After a couple of requests from parents, we let the Dad’s ride this one too as a Father’s day treat! In some cases the Dad’s were showing the kids the way, but in many other cases it was the other way round!

The Reynolds, Dad Mitch and Son Zach, had a great day out after betting eachother in the week leading upto the trial who would win. I believe it went down to the last section, where Zach had a very unlucky fall a few metres from the end that reversed the result! Andrew & Ethan Richardson also had a good day out on the red route. Kayleigh Rich, onboard the new MK Off Road TRS One RR 125 demo bike had a great ride round the venue with Daisy Brookes. It was great to see all 3 youths, Kayleigh Zach & Ethan onboard TRS 125 motorcycles.

The Wood’s Les, Josh & Louis tackled three different routes. Les had some great rides on a tricky red route, as did Josh on the red/blue 50/50. Louis bagged himself 2nd place points on a very tricky (possibly more tricky than I planned) yellow/blue 50/50.

Next up, the Herberts. Dad Ben rode the blue route and found it quite easy going with just a couple of dabs, while Thomas rode yellow, dropping 28 and Jess had, in her words her best ride on her MK Off Road TRS 20” on the white route, at one point achieving 4 cleans in a row! Go Jess

There were a total of 14 Dad’s riding with their son’s and daughters today, which was lovely to see. We had a total of 52 riders, so many people to mention. But the family atmosphere really shone through & it’s what Caz & I always hoped to achieve by running this series.

Another mention to all the first time riders, either to the sport or with us as a club. We had 9 new youth riders with us! Trials can be tough going in places and I could sit and talk all about our experiences with Kayleigh & Jack, as I’m sure all trials parents could. The struggles and tears are inevitable at times, but we’re all here to help, welcome and guide the kids in our brilliant sport.

A little mention here to the girls. As you know we like to try and promote the girls side of the sport too. The ladies nationals are a brilliant series. It’s welcoming and fun for all. The older ladies are great role models but they are struggling for numbers. At this round, we’re pleased to have had 9 young ladies riding with us!

Well done to all! Sorry I can’t mention every one of the 52 riders. Your all stars and we really appreciate you coming.
After packing up the trial the Brookes and Rich family met at the Bluebell pub for a drink in the sun. A great way to finish off a busy weekend.
Two final notes. I take responsibility for the gate being locked in the morning, and again in the afternoon. The club member/s locking the gate were just doing their job to protect the ground, and clearly didn’t know about us. We needed better signage as we can’t rely on everyone seeing the event posted on facebook, unfortunately.

Also, we are really struggling for observers. The Cumberland/Brookes Family always help us all out and we really appreciate it. But only two sections of the 8 had observers yesterday. This is a nationwide issue with trials currently, so were not alone. We have enough regulars where people could take it in turns and do it once a year. We’re all about fun and a nice family atmosphere, so closing sections like some other clubs do, or not starting until we have 8 isn’t something we want to, or would ever do. But we also want to run a serious championship and for that we need consistency with observers.
Our next event is round 2 of the Shatterford Evening Series this coming Thursday 20th. Start time is 6pm but it’s a casual start time. The sections and boards should be ready from 5:30pm, and Caz will be around to sign on up until 6:30pm.
